When people want something, yes, they want that thing, but, more importantly, they want the “feeling” of what that “thing” will give them.

In psychology and NLP (NeuroLinguistic Programming), there are “means values” and “ends values”.
Means Values = what you want
Ends Values = how getting “what you want” makes you feel
The “ends values” are what you are going for.
This is why people end up buying more stuff.
Because those feelings, that they attached to their purchase, eventually went away. So, they buy something new to get a “new feeling”.
